Naples is a very peculiar city, unique, we’d better say.
Not its sun, sky and sea, despite their flaming beauty, can describe the city’s soul and charm as well as music does.
Thinking of Naples with no music is like thinking of a river with no water: only songs that have been freely performed amongst every alleys since ages can clearly represent the warmth, suffering and nostalgia of the inhabitants of this city.
Consiglia Licciardi, that can be considered one of the finest and deepest voices ever heard in Naples, has walked the streets of this everlasting tradition of melodies.
“Passione” is her first album. It’s a deep and fascinating trip through the cameos of a music that have made this city incomparable.
The instrumental band, that walks this trip together with her voice, has not only been accurately choosen, but is also totally respectful of the rules of tradition; the band is composed of 1st mandolin, 2nd mandolin, mandola, accompaniment guitar and a solo guitar. Arrangements are by Giuseppe Licciardi, Consiglia’s brother.
The album was released in 1989 labeled Sugar-music and distributed by Polygram, first as a double vinyl and audio tape, later also as a single CD.
Unfortunately, nowadays it is unfindable.
This situation is very painful to Consiglia but everything she can do is hope in a future re-editing of the album by Sugar, to whom the copyright belongs.
The compilation contains some of the best melodies of Parthenopean tradition.
